If an animal is eating less, don’t look only at appetite

When a cow or buffalo starts eating less, the first thought is often about improving appetite. However, reduced feed intake may also be an early sign of another underlying problem.

Along with feed intake, observe a few basic things: water intake, rumination, dung quantity and consistency, body temperature, activity level, and any sudden change in milk production.

These simple observations can help a veterinarian understand the situation much better.

So while seeking advice, instead of writing only “the animal is not eating,” share the animal’s behaviour and other visible signs as well.
